Position Summary
Our client is seeking an experienced Certified Welding Instructor (CWI) to develop, deliver, and oversee welding training programs for new and existing employees. This individual will be responsible for ensuring welders are trained and qualified to company, customer, AWS, and military standards while promoting a culture of quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
The ideal candidate will possess strong hands-on welding experience, AWS certifications, instructional experience, and the ability to mentor employees at varying skill levels.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and conduct welding training programs for production welders, apprentices, and new hires.
- Evaluate welding techniques and provide hands-on instruction in MIG, TIG, and other welding processes utilized within the facility.
- Train employees on welding procedures, blueprint reading, weld symbols, metallurgy, fixturing, and fabrication techniques.
- Conduct welder qualification testing and maintain certification records.
- Ensure compliance with AWS standards, customer requirements, military specifications, and company welding procedures.
- Assess welding performance and identify opportunities for skill improvement.
- Work closely with Quality, Engineering, and Production teams to address weld-related quality issues and implement corrective actions.
- Develop training materials, work instructions, and standardized welding procedures.
- Promote and enforce workplace safety standards and proper welding practices.
- Assist with audits, process improvement initiatives, and continuous workforce development programs.
Qualifications
- Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification required.
- 5+ years of hands-on welding experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Previous experience training, mentoring, instructing, or leading welders preferred.
- Strong knowledge of AWS welding codes, welding procedures, and qualification standards.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and technical drawings.
- Experience with MIG, TIG, FCAW, and GMAW welding processes preferred.
- Knowledge of fabrication, fixturing, and welding inspection methods.
- Strong communication, coaching, and leadership skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and training documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Welding Educator (CWE) certification.
- Experience in defense, military, heavy equipment, or highly regulated manufacturing environments.
- Experience working with armored vehicle, structural steel, or precision fabrication components.
- Familiarity with ISO quality systems and military specifications.
