Application Engineer – SARC Support & Passive Systems
Location: Brighton MI
Position Summary
Our client is seeking a dynamic Application Engineer to support SARC (Semi-Active Ride Control) programs while also driving additional passive suspension business wins. This role serves as a key technical liaison between customers, internal engineering teams, and commercial stakeholders to ensure successful product application, integration, and program execution.
Key Responsibilities
SARC (Semi-Active Ride Control) Support
- Support customer programs involving semi-active suspension systems (dampers, ECUs, sensors)
- Act as the primary technical interface with OEM customers during development and launch phases
- Coordinate with hardware, software, and systems teams to ensure proper integration and performance
- Support vehicle tuning, ride evaluations, and validation activities
- Assist in troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolution of system-level issues
- Ensure compliance with customer specifications and program timing
Passive Suspension Business Development (“Passive Wins”)
- Identify and support opportunities to expand passive suspension product offerings (conventional dampers, springs, modules)
- Collaborate with sales and program management to develop technical proposals and win new business
- Provide application engineering support for RFQs, including feasibility, cost, and performance input
- Support benchmarking and competitive analysis for passive systems
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with OEM engineering teams, internal R&D, manufacturing, and supply chain
- Support design reviews, DV/PV testing, and launch readiness activities
- Ensure alignment between customer requirements and internal engineering deliverables
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field
- 3–7+ years of experience in automotive application engineering or suspension systems
- Experience working with OEM customers
- Strong understanding of:
- Suspension systems (passive and/or semi-active)
- Vehicle dynamics and ride/handling characteristics
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and test data
- Excellent communication and customer-facing skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with semi-active or active suspension systems
- Familiarity with vehicle testing, tuning, and calibration
- Knowledge of automotive development processes (APQP, DV/PV, launch)
- Exposure to ECUs, sensors, and control systems
- Background working with global OEMs (Ford, GM, Stellantis, etc.)
